"BUG" Program

We’re so proud of our BUG’s… but we’re not talking about insects here. BUG’s is a very successful program that focuses on the importance of education, goal setting and grades!

The Kiwanis Breakfast Club of Seminole sponsors the BUG (Bring Up Grades) program at Anona, Bauder, Oakhurst, Orange Grove, Seminole and Starkey elementary schools.

BUG is a national Kiwanis initiative designed to recognize students who raise their grades in at least one subject by one letter grade and maintain the improvement from one grading period to the next. Recognition includes being placed on the school’s BUG Honor Roll, participation in food-themed parties, presentation of certificates, buttons, and other giveaways.

We had a total of 401 students who participated in our BUG’s program during the 2014/2015 school year. Of that number 238 students or 59% met their goal of improving at least one academic subject by one letter grade without letting any grades fall in their other subjects. And 93 or 39% of those same students achieved “Super BUG” status!…..by improving at least three academic subjects by one letter grade without letting any grades fall in their other subjects. It’s important to note that many BUG’s students who brought up multiple grades also made the Honor Roll and/or Principle’s List at their schools.

Our club plans BUG events, provides awards and establishes partnerships with local community businesses to secure sponsorship, support and recognition items for this program.
