Kiwanis Club of Seminole Breakfast Foundation (KCSBF) provides Scholarships

In August 2011 the Club created a 501(c)(3) charitable foundation (KCSBF). All of our club’s community service projects and programs are funded through the KCSBF. The club’s board of directors meet monthly to determine how best to assist the community with these funds. The foundation also provides three separate college scholarship programs.

The first scholarship was endowed by Col. Butler who enlisted in the Army Air Corps in 1944 following her graduation from nursing school in 1943. She served as a Registered Nurse Anesthetist in the European Theatre of Operations and cared for the sick and wounded soldiers as they returned from the front lines. She retired on April 1, 1970 after 26 years in the Air Force while achieving the rank of Colonel and having served her country during World War II, Korea, and Vietnam. Col. Butler sadly passed away in December 2015 at 93 years of age.

As per Col. Butler’s wishes, scholarships are provided for study at St Petersburg College to qualifying students who are pursuing a degree in the Health Sciences field, preferably as a registered nurse. Scholarship applications are accepted from April 1st through May 15th and reviewed by members of the Kiwanis Breakfast Club. Scholarships are awarded annually in August. Thus far, 37 students have been recipients of this scholarship. Please visit our web site to learn more.

Two new scholarships were recently established by family members in memory of valued Kiwanis club members Lou Starman and William “Bill” Maxfield. Each of these scholarships will be available for the 2025-2026 academic year to students seeking a degree in Education with the purpose of becoming a teacher. Students may apply through the Pinellas Education Foundation.

As a 501(c)(3) public charitable foundation we are able to accept tax deductible contributions. If you want to make a positive difference in the lives of children and the community in which we live consider making a donation directly or through Planned Giving (a charitable trust or will).
