PROMOTING LITERACY
Free Library Book-Exchange Boxes
Take a Book / Share a Book
We are facing a growing literacy crisis! Today in the United States, more than 30 million adults cannot read or write above a third-grade level, and 25 million children cannot read proficiently. Studies have repeatedly shown that books in the hands of children have a meaningful impact on improving literacy. The more books in or near the home, the more likely a child will learn and love to read. Free library book-exchange boxes play an essential role by providing 24/7 access to books and encouraging a love of reading for readers of all ages and backgrounds.
In 2023 the Kiwanis Breakfast club installed its first free library box in Seminole. Since then, we’ve added four additional library boxes in the Seminole community to encourage reading by all age groups. Our library boxes are located at: Riviera Heights subdivision, Little Lambs Christian Preschool, Horses for Handicapped Program (in memory of Kiwanian Lou Starman), BayFirst Bank and Floridacentral Credit Union. We partnered with Richard O. Jacobson Technical High School to help construct two of these boxes which provided the students a chance to apply the carpentry skills they were learning.
Come visit one of our free Library book-exchange boxes and borrow a book for your reading enjoyment or to read to others. The book inventory in these boxes continually changes as readers are also adding/sharing the books they’ve enjoyed.
